Philadelphia’s Black Friday: Forget the mall, hit up the Trunk Show

November 27, 2008

Check out the Trunk Show hosted by Philadelphia’s City Paper this Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at TLA ( Theater of the Living Arts: 334 South St.)

Over 50 local vendors will be in attendance - including some of Philadelphia’s hottest boutiques, designers and craftspeople. There will be an array of clothing, jewelry, house wares, cosmetics, etc.

Four of the many reasons to get yourself to the Trunk show this Black Friday:

  • Forego crowded, picked-over malls and department stores (where unless you’re in the line at the crack of dawn) the “good stuff” is probably taken
  • If you live in the area you can avoid driving altogether – which means you don’t have to sit in traffic, search for a parking spot for years or spend $ on gas.  Plus, you’re decreasing your daily carbon footprint.
  • Support local businesses (as opposed to big-time manufacturing chains found in many malls.)
  • The TLA bar will be open all day!

The City Paper is hosting the Trunk Show as part of their campaign to ‘buy local.’  According to the City Paper, if every one of their readers pledged to spend $100 this holiday season with local businesses, the result would be a $77 million+ contribution to the Philadelphia economy.  That’s a small sum to pay to support the local economy in this dreary time.  Interested in taking the pledge to support Philadelphia businesses this holiday season?
