After reviewing my 2011 environmental summary of the State of the Union, I realized Obama made promises to put pressure back on big oil, get 80% of Americans access to high-speed rail within 25 years (remember that one?), 80% of electricity sourced by clean energy in 2035, and break foreign dependence on oil. Hmm…. Where are we today? (Luckily Treehugger had some Cliff Notes for me…)

This scandal of putting lion on the menu ended a chef's meeting his end (pun intended) at South Philly Tap Room. Somehow, I missed this controversy back in September 2008, but started researching how this debacle even happened. Right around the World Cup this year, an Arizona Chef attempted selling lion burgers from a "free-range farm" in Illinois. Deep Down is a documentary exploring mountaintop removal mining in an Appalachian Kentucky town. The film depicts the struggle of two life-long friends, Beverly May and Terry Ratliffe, caught in the center of the debate dividing their town. This debate revolves around the removal mining specifically. And, in broader terms - who controls, consumes, and benefits from our planet's shrinking supply of natural resources?
