Happy National Farmers Market Week, y’all!

It’s another beautiful weekend to celebrate local food!

The Farmers Market Coalition is celebrating National Farmers Market Week from August 2nd through 8th with this year’s theme: There’s More to Market.

Besides the fact Mayor Nutter & his administration can brag about adding 100 local Farmers Markets through the Greenworks Initiative and providing access to fresh, nutritious food, there’s much to celebrate about these neighborhood affairs.

How do Farmers Markets help communities?

  • Help local economies
  • Support healthy communities: your vendors will have loads of ideas what to cook with that kale & rutabaga.
  • Promote sustainability: Did you know 3 of 4 farmers selling at farmers markets use organic farming standards? (They’re not all certified due to costs, so just ask questions.)
  • Help new farmers.

Stay tuned to GPB’s Instagram for the Food Trust’s Instagram takeover this week. And check out our events calendar with Farmers Market events, too!
