Green Tips for Labor Day

Whether you’re hosting a barbecue, enjoying a picnic in the park,  or hitting up the beach one last time during this Labor Day weekend keep in mind these simple tips :

  • Reduce your carbon footprint and use public transportation or carpool with friends and family to your destination.
  • Use the final celebration weekend of summer to enjoy locally grown produce like jersey tomatoes, corn, zucchini, peppers and greens. And, fruit such as cherries, plums, berries and peaches. Need ideas on what to bring to that bbq?  These vegan friendly stuffed peppers make an excellent side dish or entree, and are easy to reheat.
  • Choose reusable plates, serving ware and cups for your soirees – a more eco-friendly and classier choice than plastic.
  • If you’re booking last minute travel choose a Green Seal Certified hotel. They’re more prevalent than ever, and if you do a quick search can likely find one in your area. Even if the hotel isn’t officially certified take the time to inquire about environmental initiatives. What cleaning products do they use? Energy saving measures? These days many hotels are going green by giving quests the option to reuse towels and bedding – sometimes in exchange for hotel points!

Have a great Labor Day weekend all! Before you (hopefully) unplug a bit for the weekend please vote for GPB here! It takes just one simple click!
