DIY Project: Make a Green Bath Mat!

Want your bathroom decor to be a little greener?

My BFF forwarded me this project to make your own bath mat! I surely need one of these for my shower:

Thanks to Curbly for sharing this idea!

The style of this mat takes inspiration from rag rugs but, with the use of towels, is better suited for the bathroom.  I mean, what could be more absorbant than a billowing pile of towels beneath your feet?  Nothing.

This project is easy and only requires 2 materials:

  • Old Towels
  • Gridded Matting (sometimes called anti-slip matting)

Cut the matting to whatever size rug you desire.  Next, cut your towels into 3/4″ wide strips of 5-6 inches each.  Working across the grid, knot each piece facing the same direction.  For a thicker rug, knot along every line – or – knot along every other line for a thinner mat.  Once you’ve knotted the whole thing you’re done.  Voila!  You have a “new” eco-friendly bath mat and spent less than $5 in the process (the gridded matting is quite cheap).
