Columbus WHO? Week Events October 12 – 18, 2015

Just because America hasn’t changed the name of the Post Office & Government holiday today doesn’t mean we need to stay tied down to such weird traditions. For example, I declared today “Pounce DeLeon Day”, but that’s only because I worked from home with a conquistador who has conquered the art of meowing his demands for wet food.

Without further ado, here’s the best events this week AND weekend. And they include a few of my FAVORITES. Of the year.

Week Events for October 12 – 15, 2015:

  • Dine Out for the Environment: Support the Clean Air Council this Thursday by dining at Philly’s sustainable restaurants. A portion of each meal goes back to the Clean Air Council’s program to fight for pristine air for us to breathe. Thursday, October 15th, all day. Restaurants across Philadelphia. Find the full listings & percentages donated on the Dine Out website here.
  • Take Your Time Ride to the #BetterBikeLanes Spruce/Pine Birthday Party! Looking for a bike ride where no one expects you to go fast? Or even…one where you’re SUPPOSED to take your time? This is it. A social, take-your-time-paced bike ride. AND they’re celebrating the Spruce/Pine bike lanes and eating birthday cake and drinking beer. Tuesday, October 13th at 5:30 PM; RSVP.

Weekend Events October 16 – 18, 2015

  • PHeaSt: Pretty much our favorite Fall eating & drinking affair goes to PHeaSt, thrown by our friends at PHS. Thrown at the PHS Warehouse at the Navy Yard, proceeds support City Harvest, which feeds healthy produce to families in need each week of the growing season. Friday, October 16th from 7-10 PM; Navy Yard, 5201 South 13th Street; $165/tickets, $150 for PHS members. More info & tickets here.
  • Harvest Festival: Get outside of Reading Terminal Market on Filbert Street, which will be transformed into an urban farm giving those who can’t get out of town a chance to enjoy all that fall season has to offer. Saturday, October 17th from 10 AM – 4 PM; Reading Terminal Market – OUTSIDE
Along on Filbert Street, between 11th and 12th Streets, Free.
  • Boyertown Pickfest: Join the town of Boyertown to celebrate the beauty of fall with a tribute to Americana roots through trains, food, music and agriculture. Saturday, October 17th from 10am-6pm and Sunday, October 18th from 10am-4pm; Boyertown. Tickets & more info.
  • Apps for Philly Sustainability: Part hackathon and part unconference, join a weekend long event to innovate sustainability in Philly for a State of Young Philly event. Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18th; more info & links.
  • Ladies at the Pumptrack: Join the Fairmount Park Conservancy, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Women Bike PHL for a group ride to the Philly Pumptrack in West Fairmount Park and a chance to try it out! The ride will depart from Fairmount Bicycles (2015 Fairmount Avenue) at 10:00 AM and will get to the pumptrack at approximately 10:30 AM. We will ride at a conversational pace to the pumptrack. Sunday, October 18th at 10 AM. RSVP.
