Pope-Calypse is Coming: Week Events September 21 – 27, 2015

The week we’ve heard about alllll summer is finally here: the Pope!

Ready for the best events? You can still have fun, amongst all the road closures and more.

Week Events (September 21  – 24):

  • Climate Change: A New Dialogue: This SOLD OUT event hosted by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is a special public forum bringing together environmental advocates, scientists, and community members for a critical conversation about climate change and the future – just in time for Pope Francis’s pending visit. Don’t worry, we snagged a ticket and will be live tweeting from the event, so you can follow along from home.   • Women Bike PHL – Coffee Club: Meet other biking ladies to share tips, rant, support, celebrate, and, most importantly….CAFFEINATE together. More info; Wednesday at 8 AM; United By Blue; 144 N 2nd St, Philadelphia PA
  • Who We Eat (And Why We Should Care): This talk by Harish Sethu will present a brief overview of the scientific evidence that the animals we eat have the capacity to suffer and why reducing their suffering should matter to effective altruists. More info on Humane League’s Meetup page; Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM; Huntsman Hall, Room 270, 3730 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA

Pope Weekend (September 25 – 27, 2015)

Saturday, September 26 at 10 AM / Porch at 30th Street Station, 2955 Market St

With the Pope in town, they’re shutting down a good portion of the city, including a bunch of major routes. A group of cyclists are celebrating with a ride! Speed will be leisurely, aiming to keep it below 10. We’re having a good time, not a race. See the Facebook post for ride rules.
