Phillies Phever! Environment to Blame?

There are a LOT of angered, exhausted, and aching Phillies Phans today.  I am definitely one of them. 

Like many, I’ve never seen a Philadelphia team win a championship.  Luckily, I didn’t pay much attention when I was younger.  But as I’ve grown older, I’ve had my heart broken during playoffs and championship series for the Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies.  I watched the 2005 SuperBowl in a London flat, with a TV we purchased from a pawn shop for a mere 24 hours, wearing my pink eagles hat and hoping the Eagles would break the Wiliam Penn Curse.  But Billy Penn was still pissed and wouldn’t let us taste victory yet.  Last year, I caught onto the Phillies Phever when we made the playoffs.  But, we came up short yet again. 

So it seems like everything’s going great for the Philadelphia Phillies lately.  Game 5 of the World Series-  one game away from a possible championship and a parade some have never experienced, the intensity in Philadelphia was undeniable yesterday.  However, mother nature had different plans for the city with an intense downpour.

Some are purely looking at the mid-sixth inning delay call after a tying run as a random mix of Ray’s luck and mother nature. (Maybe we can even go as far as to blame climate change due to freezing temperatures at the end of October.)  Others feel the decision’s timing – which ultimately gave the Rays an advantage  was a little too convenient.  

 As a Phillies fan, it’s more and more difficult to read each blog, article, email and IM regarding the Phils and the disadvantage we face from a game suspension.  Heartbreaks include Lidge believing we’d win the game if it was called after 5 1/2 innings, children asking their parents if they can be woken up if the Phillies game comes back on at 1 AM, our best pitcher not being able to finish up his game…  

Regardless, let’s hope the Phils are riled up (I’m sure the fans will be) whenever the game resumes (scheduled for Wednesday night at 8:37 p.m. as of now) and we can end this game like we did previous games – with lots of Home Runs!  And following  a possible victory, we’ll hopefully have the parade we’ve all  been waiting for (just make sure to recycle any cans or bottles you are celebrating with)!
