The middle man of beverages – straws. Are they recyclable in your single stream recycling bin?

NO, unless you know for sure that your straw is a #2 plastic.

Most straws are made from #2 or #5 plastic – but the problem is they are rarely labeled. If you have the option to bypass the use of a straw, this is encouraged, but if you can’t, here are a few options for you.

• As stated before – If you know you are buying #2 plastic straws, you can put them in your single stream recycling bin.
• Straw Art Ideas: Don’t underestimate the beauty of a straw – after seeing some of these creations, you will feel inspired to create some straw art, too.
• Buy Reusable Straws: Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, and many other stores have reusable straws for sale, which means no worrying about recycling!

Basically, next time you buy straws, buy #2 plastic straws or reusable straws – this way you and the planet are better off.
