Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (LFFC) is looking for volunteers to host weekly Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) deliveries of fresh, organic produce to neighborhoods in the Philadelphia area. Members purchase a subscription to receive a box of fresh, high quality produce from a local farm on a weekly basis. Hosts can help support local, sustainable family farmers and widening access to local products directly to the Philadelphia community. (Find out more, after the jump!)
Hey Green Philly Blog Readers, Fans & Friends,
Thanks for reading, commenting, and inspiring us to help Philly become a shade greener. We still have a long way to go, but we’re very thankful for our readers – veteran and new!
We started this blog over 3 years ago… as two women who wanted to make a difference. Carpooling & complaining about our former company’s lack of recycling bins, we realized our passion could develop into something bigger. Something that can educate others. Something that could help make our city a little bit greener.
Since Green Philly Blog’s infancy, we’ve… (click through to read the rest of our 500 post reflections!)
After last year’s successful drive, Philly is kicking off their 2011 Bagged Leaf Drive this Monday, November 7th through Friday, December 16th.
Collected leaves are used for composting, for beautiful benefits like fertilizing gardens & nourishing trees… and wayyy better alternative to face-planting in a wet leaf pile. (Not like I’ve done this…)
Here’s how to get your leaves collected:
Today is World Vegan Day – which makes the founding of the Vegan Society in the UK.
Celebrations across the world from Sydney to the UK are taking place to recognize the meat-free lifestyle. Locally, Vegan Tom Epler is walking between the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia to New Hope to support injured and abused farm animals for a better life.

Rachael Kennedy recently completed her Low Car Diet with Zipcar, just like I did last year! We had a chance to ask her a few questions about her experience. She’s a recent Temple University graduate who moved to Philly last August. Just as she was going on her second year as a city-dweller and sick of the parking scene, she heard about Zipcar. The Low Car Diet seemed like a perfect trial period to go car-less.

Although I had my own experience last fall as a Zipster for Zipcar, I fully respected the PhillyCarShare non-profit option… Another alternative where Philadelphians could share cars, pay less, and support the ‘little’ guy.
PhillyCarShare announced that it’s being purchased by Enterprise Holdings (aka the world’s largest car rental company). They had been in financial trouble – aka
Philly Mag published a post yesterday by Carrie Denny titled “Philadelphia Cyclists Finally Get What’s Coming to ‘Em..”
*hand to forehead.*
As Ms. Denny begins, “The Boyfriend says that bikers throughout the city of Philadelphia know well the hum of my 2000 Land Rover Discovery. You know what I say? I wish they did. Then maybe they’d get the hell out of the way.”
Get the hell out of the way?? Oh, Carrie, it’s been brought-en.
Throughout the article, Ms. Denny (find out more, after the jump!)
