Celebrate this year’s Valentine’s Day through the menus of an intriguing couple, the avant-garde pioneer Gertrude Stein, and her “secretary-companion,” Alice B. Toklas.
Glimpses into their complicated and intense relationship were documented in Stein’s poems, their exchanged love notes, peers’ memoirs, and even between-the-lines in Toklas’ cookbook.
