Happy Monday!

Hope you got to get outside! I was lucky to spend Saturday on a Stand Up Paddleboard, enjoying the serene water while the warm weather lasts.

Whether you spent the weekend running or enjoying the beautiful weather, we close out August & welcome Labor Day weekend with a few awesome events.

Week Events August 31 – September 4, 2015:

  • Nerd Nite No. 52: Pickling! Clinical Trials! Sabermetrics! Hear fermenting expert Amanda Feifer address how she brings “the Funk: How Fermented Foods Changed My Worldview“, info about seizures and baseball. Wednesday at 7:30pm, Frankford Hall, 1210 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19114, $5.   • Info session about Washington Ave: Make it Safer. Join the Bicycle Coalition and advocates to make Washington Avenue Safer for all at this public meeting on September 3rd. Before you head to that meeting, the Bicycle Coalition will host an info session at Tattooed Mom. Tuesday, September 1st at 6 PM; 530 South Street, more info.
  • Washington Ave Restriping Meeting: Join thePhiladelphia Planning Commission, along with the Streets Department, Planning Commission, and MOTU on September 3rd for a meeting to discuss what Washington Ave can be. Thursday, September 3rd at 6 PM; Rock School for Dance Education; 1101 S Broad Street; more info. 
  • United by Blue Pennypack Creek Cleanup in philadelphia, pa: UBB is partnering with the Delaware City River Corporation to cleanup along Pennypack Park and the banks of the Pennypack Creek. Most of the trash that ends up in our oceans starts somewhere small, like local streams and creeks. September 1st, 2015 from 5-7 PM; Pennypack Park, Philadelphia, PA 19152, (For GPS use: State Rd & Rhawn St, Philadelphia, PA 19136). Labor Day Weekend Events: September 4 – 6, 2015:

  • Planting a Forest: The Painted Bride Art Center has collected tree memories from throughout Philadelphia for a gallery exhibition this September. Community members submitted photos of their memorable tree and why the tree is important to them. See those trunk photos will be from September 4 – October 17, First Friday Receptions: September 4 and October 2 | 5pm – 7pm. More info.
  • First Friday in Old City: After you check out the Planting a Forest exhibit, Swing by United by Blue to see watercolor paintings by local artist Ellie Moniz & complimentary coffee cocktails. 144 N 2nd St, Friday, Sept 4th from 6-9 PM; More info.
  • Free Movies in Clark Park: Catch Little Shop of Horrors in Clark Park! Friday, September 4 at 7 PM; 43rd & Baltimore; more info.  
  • Beer Appreciation Class: Ever wonder what the difference is between an IPA and a Bock? This beer tasting bootcamp brought to you by Home Brewed Events focuses on a very broad background of the four main beer ingredients in beer (hops, barley, water and yeast), followed by a more detailed discussion of how beer is evaluated for each category.
